PCDForum Campaign III: Changing the story that there is no viable non-socialist alternative to corporate capitalism (1996 to 2005).
The New Story: Although capitalism claims to be the champion of democracy and markets, the drive of capitalist corporations for monopoly control of economic and political power makes capitalism as we know it, the mortal enemy of both. The obvious alternative is a planetary system of self-organizing, self-reliant local living economies that mimic healthy living systems and embody the principles of real democracy and real markets.

The Forum’s Role
By 1996 it was already evident that resistance was a necessary but insufficient response to the destructive forces of corporate globalization. The system itself must be transformed. That required a positive vision of a non-socialist alternative to corporate capitalism. The Forum responded to this need through its leadership in four initiatives.
- Founding YES! A Journal of Positive Futures to provide a publication devoted to disseminating stories of people and ideas leading to a future grounded in strong local communities and economies.
- Producing The Post-Corporate World: Life After Capitalism (1999) which drew on the findings of the new biology to present a framework for a democratic, market-based, life-serving economy based on the system design principles of healthy living systems.
- Helping to initiative and write the IFG report Alternatives to Economic Globalization (2002, 2004) edited by Jerry Mander and John Cavanagh to provide an authoritative and compr
ehensive framework for a global system of cooperating local economies.
- Contributing to the conceptual framework for and supporting the launch of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE), which works across the the United States and Canada to create the new economy based on local enterprises and ownership from the bottom up.
