Kat Gjovik
Director – Outreach/Communication

Kat has been David’s colleague since early 2008. She handles incoming requests, coordinates logistics for speaking engagements, collaborates with individuals and partner organizations, researches relevant material, develops content for the web site, e-newsletter, and social networking tools, and performs various other administrative functions for our small two-person nonprofit organization.

Kat’s work with David on the Great Turning and the New Economy and her community activism have become inextricably linked and interdependent, each one informing and inspiring the other.

After leaving a 25-year career in 1997, having worked in multiple disciplines, from operations management to marketing and strategic planning in a large regulated service business, Kat earned a master’s degree in whole systems design and began work in organizational development, community building, and local political actvism. On Bainbridge Island, WA, where she has lived since 1980, she is engaged in collaborative grassroots organizing for local sustainability, bringing people together for meaningful conversations, and building alliances and networks.

Kat served on the board of Sustainable Bainbridge for several terms; is co-founder of the Sustainable Business Network of Bainbridge Island; co-founder/organizer of local Green Drinks, Conversation Café, and the West Sound Time Bank. She was the director of the former Community Housing Coalition, and was co-organizer for several Seattle area Earth Charter Community Summits.

As a life-long learner, Kat continues to study, engage in conversation about, and experiment with new ways to bring people from various segments of community together, find common ground, and use whole system approaches.

Kat works from a space rented from and nestled in the positively energized office of YES! Magazine.
